What: Training in Negotiation and Mediation skills for community youth leaders

Where: Otuasega community, Rivers state

Why: This training was a response to an urgent need expressed by members of the community themselves. The youths in Otuasega identified lack of negotiation skills as an essential problem for them. One of the youth leaders said: ‘Sometimes we know what we want but how to get these oil companies to listen to us and present out problems becomes difficult. We need help to be able to negotiate properly”.

Outcome: The training lasted two days. The twenty participants representing various youth groups in the community, including women, were explained and taught the theory, principles and useful strategies of negotiation.
