Mothers for Peace marches

In this section....
Women in the Niger Delta have a profound sense of responsibility for their families and communities and a personal interest in peace. However, this potential for peace has been largely untapped. Although women in the Niger Delta have protested against oil companies, there are no precedents of large number of women collectively calling for peace. Kebetkache worked with women groups to oppose conflict and to exert pressure on their husbands and sons to stop violence. Kebetkache organised three peace marches around the elections in 2007 in communities that had previously experienced violent conflicts.
