Njemanze demolitions: Social and economic effects
The Njemanze waterfront community located in Port Harcourt city was demolished on the 28th August 2009 during the rainy reason, under the watchful eyes of the Rivers state commissioner for Urban Development.
The massive demolition of structures in Njemanze and other waterfront communities in readiness for the Silverbird Showtime development of a Cinema complex did not seek adequate or genuine consultation of evictees and compensation was only made to selected few.
