Conflict Management training

conflict management training
Erema women being trained in conflict management

What: Training in Conflict Management and Transformation for community leaders

Where: Erema community, Rivers state

Why: This training was carried out as a response to a longstanding polarization between different groups of community women belonging to various Community Development Committees - (CDCs). This conflict was about the participation in decision-making and was negatively affecting the whole community. During a meeting organized by SDN bringing together all community stakeholders, women from different CDCs were encouraged to speak openly about their grievances and disagreements. Their emotional reaction revealed a need for a training in conflict management and transformation so that they could deal with all latent conflicts within community.

Outcome: During the training women were educated in conflict management and transformation skills and were able to discuss the conflicts in their community. The training objectives were met - women not only resolved conflicts among them, but also promised to hold regular meetings for the peace of the community.
